In 2018, we shared Blackhawk Millworks’ social media success after TimberKing 2000 sawmill owner Doug Carouselli helped clear flood-downed trees. In 2025, ten years after his first sawmill delivery, our team revisited Doug and wife Natalia’s company in San Marcos to hear how they’ve used their TWO TimberKing Sawmills over the past decade to grow his business and support his community.
who is Blackhawk millworks?
In 2015, we made a decision to start a sawmill service and kiln service. We had our first TimberKing sawmill delivered in March of 2015. During the floods of 2015, there was two floods. We went and cleaned up people’s properties for the logs, and we put all the debris into piles and then they would have that removed.
We also donated to a couple different fundraising groups that helped the Wimberley flood victims. For the first year after we started milling and kiln drying the wood, we donated 10% of those sales to the Wimberley relief fund.
every piece of wood that you cut into tells a different story
We offer kiln service and sawmilling. We have two TimberKing sawmills and three kilns.
The wonderful thing about owning a sawmill and custom furniture business is every piece of wood that you cut into tells a different story. Different grain structure, different spalting1, all the way up to just your very plain wood that has a wonderful grain.
A couple from New Braunfels wanted a multi-piece, 80-inch diameter, irregular edge round table. They wanted a very deep blue epoxy. We made a custom base out of metal for this, and it is by far one of my most favorite projects I’ve ever worked on.

If you dream it, we can build it.
Everything is built to the specifications of the customer with attention to detail. If you dream it, we can build it. Our goal at Blackhawk Millworks is to provide each customer with a high-quality piece of wood.
We build tables from as small as 4′ x 4′ up to boardroom tables 18 feet long and 48 inches wide. We also manufacture all of our table legs here in our welding and blacksmith shop.
Table legs can consist of smooth, untextured steel to a hammer-tone finish, as well as a variety of designs. We also have a 52-inch-wide belt sander that helps us to achieve a perfectly flat and even finished surface on your custom tables. We only build custom furniture. We do not make random pieces of furniture.
Kiln Drying
Building custom furniture goes hand in hand with our large selection of kiln-dried and sterilized wood slabs.

Once the wood is milled, it’s placed on stickers and on pallets and put into our air drying sheds. The wood’ll stay in the air drying sheds from eight to 12 months. After our air drying process, these are placed in our kiln.
We do a full kiln drying down to 8% moisture content. We do a minimum of three days of core temperature at 140 degrees to get a bug-free and perfectly dried for the customer. Once the kiln processing is done, we have what we call the lean-to area of the building.
We have a 24,000-square-foot building. A section of this is dedicated to the kiln-dried wood. Once it’s placed in the lean-to area, through this, and we bring in what’s needed for our customer base and sales, it’s surfaced or planed and run through our wide-belt sander and sanded to 80 grit.
Then we apply a sealer. Once the sealer’s applied, everything is priced and placed into the racks for sale.
the heart and soul of our operation is our TimberKing sawmills
TimberKing has always supported us and provides great customer service with a high-quality mill, and Blackhawk owns TWO! We have up to 60-inch capacity on our large sawmill and up to 36-inch capacity on our TimberKing 2200.
We welcome everyone to come to the sawmill, from the hobbyist for the smallest piece of wood to the custom furniture builder for the largest of tables.
